Never cooked with choko before? You're in for a surprise. Also known as chayote, choko has a mild, slightly sweet flavour and a crisp texture similar to zucchini when raw, becoming soft and creamy when cooked. Its neutral taste makes it perfect for soaking up herbs, spices and sauces.
Simply peel, remove the seed if desired, then roast with olive oil, garlic and rosemary, add it to curries, soups and stir-fries, or mash it with butter as a potato alternative. Our certified organic choko is grown without synthetic pesticides and delivered fresh to your door.
Store your fresh choko whole and unwashed in the refrigerator crisper drawer, ideally inside a reusable or perforated produce bag to maintain humidity and prevent moisture loss.
When stored properly, fresh choko can keep for around 3–4 weeks or longer under ideal refrigerated conditions. Check occasionally and remove any choko that develops soft spots to help keep your fresh organic produce in the best condition.
For longer-term storage, choko (chayote) can be sliced, blanched and frozen for several months. It can also be pickled or preserved, making this versatile seasonal vegetable great for stir-fries, curries, soups and roasting.
